Don't you just hate it...

When a job turns out totally different to what you were lead to believe when you were interviewed. Without going into too much detail because I think a blogs a bit too much of a public place to do that...lets just say we had philosophical differences. So I quit. Because I wanted to leave on a good note, having only been there four weeks, I've said that I'll relieve over the holidays, so am doing two days next week, but am off to see the kindergarten association on Wednesday - that's where my heart is, and where I'd rather be...so I'm putting my name down as a reliever for them and we will see how that goes. Fortunately Canterbury is like the rest of the country in terms of positions for early childhood teachers - lots of jobs and not enough qualified people - but finding the right place can be a challenge. Lyall has decided to go back to work fulltime so that I can be a reliever (one of us needs to work full time for the income) - so he needs to find a job! If anybody's got contacts in the Canterbury trucking industry then let me know lol!

Last Friday I spent a lovely few hours scrapping with Gaye, Vicki and Heidi - we were occasionally helped with distressing by young Danny who would find a bit of paper on the floor (or on occassion a layout of Heidi's) and run like buggery with it, leaving a few teet marks as reminders. Lyall and Donna came home from shopping and Lyall suggested we head away in the morning, so we took off to Hamner Springs on Saturday and were back Sunday - nice just to get away for a night, have a change of scene and have a relaxing drive where you could stop and nose around at places. Hence the photos - they are mostly of our short excursion away, but there are a couple there of a very frosty morning this week! Today I headed into Harvey Norman - when we went on scrap camp a couple of weeks ago we were all given a couple of cards for free photos - one was from HN for a hundred free photos (thanks HN and thanks Tanya Leigh) so I went and got those done, otherwise I'd forget! Sunday we have my BIL and SIL arriving for nine days - some of that time with us, and some where they are buggering off for a looksie around - so am looking forward to that.

Well that's about it from me...have a lovely weekend, wrap up warm and stay indoors it doesn't sound that pleasant out there, no matter what part of this beautiful country you live in.

Bummer about the job ... at least by relieving you can work out which are the good places. So are you finding it cold down there? Just a little bit jealous of your spontaneous overnight trip to Hamner! :o)

Excellent decision, Trace, to get out early. To be happy in a job you need to believe in what you're doing.

Many years ago I had the same thing happen to me. Within the first week I had a gut feeling that what I'd been sold wasn't the reality. Huge philosophical differences between what felt right for me and the culture of the organisation. Unfortunately, I was a lot younger at the time and chose not to listen to my intuition and stayed a year. It took a loooooooong time to recover from being in that environment.

Gorgeous shots once again, Trace! They don't call it the Mainland for no reason ;)

Sorry to hear about the job Trace, glad you had the option of getting out, and I'm sure somewhere suitable will snap you up smartish!

What a helpful little pup Danny is, helping with the distressing - I hope you appreciate him LoL!

Love the photo's, those mountains look amazing, sitting here in 30 degree heat they are helping me cool down!

Kx

Fingers crossed for Lyall then and must say am also impressed with what you did. Things sure are different for you down here aren't they? LOL. As for the resident distressing tool - he sure was a welcome distraction for my lack of creativity. LOL

That's such a shame about the job, Trace. I've never had that happen to me (where a job has not turned out as expected), but it has happened to somebody in my family. It's so disappointing and frustrating. I hope Lyall finds a good job, I'm sure he will.

LOVE those photos! What a gorgeous country we live in!

Trace you have to be true to yourself and there will be lots of oppurtunities for you out there.
On another note we were unable to fly out of Queenstown last Sunday and bused over to CHCH ended up spending the night at the Copthorne near the airport if I had known your surname I would have given you a ring email me your cell no for next time lol.

Good on you for doing what was best for you. Bet you won't regret it one bit. Good luck to Lyall in finding a job - hopefully it won't take too long.
